David Yong, S'porean CEO in Netflix show & lawyer, fined S$1,000 by S'pore Law Society
Yong was deemed to have breached rules against accepting an executive appointment in a business.
Singaporean businessman and lawyer David Yong, who previously starred in Netflix reality series "Super Rich in Korea", has been fined S$1,000 by the Law Society of Singapore for holding an executive appointment in a business entity.
Yong, 38, was deemed to have breached rules governing the legal profession owing to his appointment as director and chief executive officer of the Evergreen Group of Companies, according to a notice filed in the Government Gazette on Sep. 19.
According to rule 34(6) of the Legal Profession (Professional Conduct) Rules 2015, a "legal practitioner must not accept any executive appointment in a business entity".
Yong's website states that he is a managing partner in Yong, Seow and Lim Legal LLP, a boutique law firm in Singapore specialising in both civil and corporate matters.
However, Yong has apparently been removed from the role as of mid-August 2024, according to an archived version of the firm's website, The Straits Times reported.
Faces 5 charges
Yong, who is facing various fraud-related charges, is currently in Japan after being granted court approval for the third time to travel for business, CNA reported.
Previously, Yong was charged with four counts of falsifying accounts.
On Aug. 1, 2024, Yong was arrested and charged two days later for abetting his employee to falsify a company tax invoice around Dec. 16, 2021.
He was handed two more charges for falsifying accounts on Aug. 8, 2024, in which he was accused of abetting the same employee to falsify papers belonging to Evergreen GH, which were dated May 13, 2021, and Oct. 22, 2021, respectively.
On Jun. 3, Yong was handed his fifth charge for consenting to Evergreen Group Holdings' offering of over 1,000 promissory notes.
More than S$61 million was reportedly raised from the promissory notes, which promised an annual interest of 10 per cent.
Police began investigations into the matter following suspicions that investor monies were misused.
Appeared on Netflix series
Yong previously starred in the Netflix reality series "Super Rich in Korea".
In the Netflix show, Yong showcased his four-storey villa complete with 11 cars and was shown alighting from a private jet while carrying a luxury Hermès bag.
He had also said he was "Singapore's 1 per cent super rich".
His attempt at breaking into the Korean pop music scene saw him release a song, "In My Pocket", in July 2022.
