A couple returned to their hotel late at night after a full day of sightseeing in Langkawi, ready to dive under the bed covers and rest.

However, what greeted them was an eerie sight the door to their hotel room had been left unlocked.

In a TikTok video clip posted on Sep. 27, a lady in the video can be seen pushing aside the unlocked door.

A long-haired woman, unknown to the one who posted the clip and her husband, was revealed through the gap in the door.

A complete stranger was sleeping in their bed.

The clip now has around 5 million views.

According to Sin Chew Daily, both the lady and her husband had booked two rooms for a two-night stay.

She mentioned that before leaving the room on their second day there, both of them had made sure to lock the door and hang up a “Please clean the room” sign.

They also left a spare card inside so that the air conditioning would continue to operate and the room would remain cold for their return.

After a full day of island hopping and swimming at the pool, they had not expected to be faced with such a strange encounter when they came back to their hotel around 11:30pm.

"It was almost midnight, and I was so scared that I got goosebumps all over my body. I thought I saw a ghost!" the woman said, as quoted by 8world News, when they saw a strange woman with long black hair passed out on their bed.

The couple immediately alerted the front desk, but only one staff member was on duty.

In a follow-up video, two security guards had been dispatched to the room with a wheelchair in order to remove the stranger from the premises. However, they insisted that hotel policy prohibited the touching of guests.

The guards only tried calling out to the stranger from outside the room in an attempt to rouse her, but their efforts failed.

The stranger was too drunk to wake from her stupor.

It wasn’t until the early hours of the next morning that the strange woman’s identity was discovered.

She was actually a resident next door.

She and her boyfriend were going back to their room after getting drunk, but she had walked back out alone and, in a daze, mistakenly stumbled into the couple’s room instead and had fallen asleep.

The hotel later admitted that the cleaning staff had accidentally left the couple’s room unlocked due to negligence, which was how the stranger had gained access to their room.

According to the report, the couple did not suffer any property loss and chose not to escalate the matter further. However, they cautioned other travellers to keep valuables on hand rather than in their rooms.

The couple is now reportedly negotiating a refund with the hotel.
