What was supposed to be a simple supper at a nasi kandar restaurant quickly turned into chaos as a brawl erupted.

In a viral TikTok video, an older man is seen confronting a husband and wife who were sitting down to eat.

The wife, who had raised up her phone to record the incident, was then shoved by the other man. This escalated into a tussle between all three involved.

Reason for the brawl

According to Harian Metro, the fight occurred at around 11:50pm on Sep. 11 in Selangor.

The brawl allegedly started because the other man was not happy after he was advised to stop smoking by the eatery's staff and the couple.

The Shah Alam district police only received a report on the incident the next day around 1.45pm on Sep. 12.

According to the Shah Alam district police, the woman, who was eight months pregnant, was worried that the secondhand smoke would affect the health of the baby.

The police commissioner, as cited in New Straits Times, stated that the complainant’s husband tried to reprimand the smoker thrice but to no avail.

The husband also began to film the incident on his phone, just in case the smoker would attack them.

However, the husband and the smoker got into an argument. The smoker pushed the husband's hand away, causing the phone to drop on the ground.

"The argument turned physical when the husband and the suspect began to push one another, with the suspect eventually leaving the restaurant," police said.

In another TikTok video uploaded by the husband, a restaurant worker was also seen trying to approach the smoker, only to be ignored.

Aftermath of the brawl

The manager of the restaurant has managed to reach out to the persons affected and apologised for the incident.

He mentioned that he was on holiday leave during the time the fight erupted and would have immediately stepped in if he had been there.

After the video went viral, netizens managed to identify the smoker and threatened to boycott the tyre shop where he works.

NST reports that investigations are currently underway in order to track down the culprit.

The case is being investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act for indecent behaviour, which carries a fine not exceeding RM100 (S$30.40).

The police have also opened an investigation paper under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, which carries a maximum jail term of one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
