Fans of Wala Wala Cafe Bar, hold back the farewell party invites: The watering hole's 32-year journey will continue.

After announcing in June 2025 that it would likely close as early as end-August, Wala Wala has shared that it will be staying on in Holland Village.

Posting on Instagram on Aug. 26, the popular night spot said its landlord has "kindly offered revised terms that make it feasible for [them] to stay".

Owner Stanley Yeo told The Business Times in June that rent was S$28,000 a month, after a 9 per cent increase over the last two years.

He also cited a drop in customers as another reason for the planned closure.

Revenue had fallen by more than half.

However, the bar saw a surge in patrons following the news of its impending departure from the Holland Village scene.

The team expressed gratitude for the support in a Jul. 5 Instagram post, while pondering whether it might be fuelled by nostalgia or an appreciation for the long-standing bar and its legacy in the local community.

Now, Wala Wala attributes the encouragement of the patrons for giving the team a "reason to believe the story is not yet over".
