A "worm" that a woman found in the piece of salmon she bought from a FairPrice supermarket in Bedok North was actually a connective tissue, FairPrice Group said.
Worm
The woman, known as Liz, previously reported the incident to FairPrice after she claimed to have found the 6.5cm "cooked long parasitic worm" while eating a pack of salmon bones.
She had bought the fish on Aug. 12 and ate it with her family on the night of Aug. 15.
Photos Liz provided showed the alleged worm's long, white body sticking out of the partially eaten salmon.
She also claimed to have experienced bloating after eating the salmon, but did not have any diarrhoea.
FairPrice issued an apology after the report was made, stating that they had reached out to Liz to address her concerns.
They also said they were in the midst of conducting an investigation.
Not worm
On Aug. 26, a group spokesperson confirmed that the "worm" found was not a "parasitic worm but natural connective tissue".
The conclusion was reached after an "evaluation of the customer’s remaining salmon sample and analysis of customer’s photographs by aquamedicine professional and parasitologist", they said.
The spokesperson also reiterated the importance of consuming food sold at supermarkets before the stipulated expiry date.
"Food safety and quality remain our highest priority."
