Youth allegedly steals S$1,079 computer part from Sim Lim Square store, police investigating
An official police report has been filed.

A young man has been caught on camera purportedly stealing an ASUS power supply unit, retailing at S$1,079, from Bizgram Asia at Sim Lim Square on Jul. 1.
The shop owner has filed a police report regarding the incident.
Not a one-time occurrence
Upon reaching out to the owner of Bizgram Asia, it was discovered that some shops within Sim Lim Square have experienced similar suspicious activity from the same young man in recent weeks.
The youth would allegedly enter the shops and pretend to browse around before attempting to leave with high-value items.
Several of the shop owners posted alerts in their shared WhatsApp group chat meant for mutual security alerts, and shared photos of the young man exhibiting suspicious behaviour.
With the frequent occurrences, the shop owners at Sim Lim Square have been on high alert.

What Happened
In the most recent case involving the power supply unit from Bizgram Asia, according to the police report filed, the staff at Bizgram Asia did not notice what had happened at first.
However, another store owner within Sim Lim Square had recognised him as someone who was previously suspected of similar activities in his own shop.
Upon recognising him, he alerted the rest of the shop owners via their WhatsApp group chat.
The staff from Bizgram Asia began to search the premises after receiving the alert.
Shortly afterward, another shop owner contacted them, stating that one of their staff members had found the box with the stolen item still inside.
The box had been partially opened and left outside the building's public toilet.
The stolen item was then returned to Bizgram Asia.
Installed a new camera
Bizgram Asia informed Mothership that they have also added a new smart camera in their store, which would allow them to detect faces and track movement through the store to improve security.
They also reiterated that their main concern is the recurring nature of the young man's actions, and are not averse to the police handing out just rehabilitation or warnings provided he voluntarily steps up to take responsibility.
They said their main goal is "deterrence, not punishment" but emphasise business owners deserve a "peace of mind" while operating their stores.
The police confirm that a report has been lodged and investigations are currently ongoing.
