While intoxicated, a man allegedly tore down campaign posters and broke flag poles belonging to a political party.

He also allegedly threatened, insulted, and verbally abused party volunteers at the scene, and pushed two of them.

Mothership understands that the political party in question was the People's Action Party (PAP).

The incident took place on May 3 — Polling Day for the 2025 General Election — at Hougang Avenue 5.

This was in Hougang SMC, where PAP candidate Marshall Lim faced off against the Dennis Tan from the Workers' Party (WP).

The man, 57, will be charged in court on Jul. 4 for four alleged offences: mischief, intentional harassment, use of criminal force, and causing annoyance while drunk.

"The police have zero tolerance towards such acts that threaten public order and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law," the Singapore Police Force said in a Jul. 3 press release.

For mischief, he could be jailed up to two years, fined, or both.

For intentional harassment, he could be jailed up to six years, fined up to S$5,000, or both.

For using criminal force, he could be jailed up to three months, fined up to S$1,500, or both.

For causing annoyance while drunk, he could be jailed up to six months, fined up to S$1,000, or both for first-time offenders.
