Dead man with gunshot wounds left at Johor hospital, link to alleged shooting at petrol station being investigated

A suspected failed robbery attempt at a petrol station in Johor, Malaysia near the Second Link, has allegedly resulted in one man subsequently turning up dead at a hospital.
Malaysia media New Straits Times reported on Jul. 4 that the body of a man was left at the Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA), located in Johor Bahru at about 1:40am on Jul. 3.
There were no identifying documents on the deceased man's body.
Alleged shooting at petrol station caught on camera
Malaysia police are investigating the link between the body being left behind and an alleged shooting that took place earlier that Thursday morning at about 12:10am.
During the attack, four masked men were seen holding machetes, which they used to hack at a dark-coloured car, surveillance footage of the incident showed.
Shots were heard ringing out and the four assailants were seen escaping.
A man who emerged from a dark-coloured Honda car was seen brandishing what appeared to be a firearm.
He was seen pointing the firearm in the direction of the men who escaped.
Location of incident near Singapore
According to Malaysia police, the alleged failed robbery attempt and shooting incident occurred at a petrol station in Gelang Patah, Iskandar Puteri, a spot frequented by Singaporeans, which is a 15-minute drive from Singapore.
Details of deceased man
The deceased man was seen being dropped off by two people using a dark-coloured car, based on surveillance footage, Malaysia police revealed.
The police subsequently identified the deceased as a 42-year-old Indian man from Sungai Petani, Kedah, who had four previous criminal records.
A post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen, Malaysia police added.
3 men arrested
Three men have since been arrested in Malaysia in relation to the incidents.
The arrests took place at about 7pm on Thursday, on the day of the alleged shooting.
The three men arrested comprised two Malaysians and an Indian national, aged between 30 and 40.
They were caught in the Dang Wangi area in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia police said.
Items seized included a Glock 19 pistol, a firearm licence book and ammunition, a magazine loaded with six 9mm bullets, a black Honda Accord car, and spent shell casings.
One of the arrested is a bodyguard
Malaysia police said one of the suspects works as a personal bodyguard, and initial checks confirmed he holds a firearm licence.
Further investigations will determine the legitimacy of the firearm ownership, Malaysia police added.
All three suspects have been remanded for seven days from Jul. 4 to 10 for investigations.
The case is being investigated for murder, for rioting with weapons, and for discharging a firearm outside a shooting range.
Others still at large
Efforts are ongoing to track down other suspects at large.
The public is advised against speculating on the case, the Malaysia authorities said.
Johor police assured the public that the incident was an isolated case and does not pose any security threat to the state.
