M'sia girl, 14, found after missing for 4 days, family suspects disappearance linked to man she befriended online

A 14-year-old girl in Malaysia has been reported missing after she failed to turn up at school on Jul. 23, despite being dropped off by her grandfather that morning.

Wong Yee Xuan’s disappearance came to light when her grandfather returned to pick her up around 12:30pm, only to be told by school staff that she did not attend classes that day, Malay Mail reported.

He had dropped her off at the school in Kepong at about 7am.

According to China Press, Wong allegedly skipped school to meet an older man she had befriended online while playing video games.

Befriended an older man

A photo circulating online showing a girl outside an SUV has been attributed to Wong.

A family member told China Press that Wong had recently been spending time with a man in his forties whom she met online.

The family member said the man had previously come to pick Wong up in person.

At the time, she spoke with him and even took a photo of his Malaysian identity card.

The man claimed he was merely a friend and stated he would wait until Wong was older before pursuing any further relationship.

Wong has been living with her grandfather since her mother died in a car accident last year. Wong's father has been working in Singapore.

Her father reportedly travelled to the man’s last known address in Johor to search for Wong after she's gone missing, only to discover that the man had sold the property several years ago.

He added that the man would make promises to Wong, saying that he would buy her a car and a property in the future.

Wong reportedly often returned home late, after meeting the man. She was once found with a kiss mark on her neck, her father told China Press.

Her father learnt from the man's former neighbours that he owed loansharks money, which made him worry even more about Wong's whereabout.

Girl found by police after four days

On Jul. 27, 5pm, the father received a call from the police, saying that Wong has been found at Batu Pahat, China Press reported.

The father said he will find out more after meeting Wong and the police.

Police investigations are currently ongoing.
