Singaporean national swimmer Gan Ching Hwee has broken a nearly 16-year-old national record in the women's 400m freestyle event.

The previous record was set back in December 2009 by Lynette Lim, who clocked 4:11.24.

At the World Aquatic Championship Singapore 2025, Gan smashed the record by almost two seconds, clocking a time of 4:09.81 on home soil.

However, Gan placed 13th overall and did not progress to the finals.

And this is not the first time Gan broke the national record.

During her Olympic debut, Gan broke the national record twice at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In the women's 800m freestyle event, Gan set a new national record with a time of 8:32.37, coming in seventh in the first heat.

She also set a new national record in the women's 1,500m freestyle event.

Gan won her heats with a time of 16:10.13, but sadly missed finals by one place.
