Man allegedly brandished penknife at officers

Responding to Mothership's queries, the police said that they received a call for assistance at Block 887 Tampines Street 81 at around 9:30pm on Jul. 7.

Upon arriving at the scene, a 63-year-old man allegedly waved a penknife at the officers and refused to comply with their instructions.

The man also purportedly placed the penknife on his own neck.

The police said despite several verbal warnings from the officers, the man did not back down and the police assessed that the man posed a threat of hurt to himself and others.

According to the police, they then discharged a round of taser in order to disarm the man and prevent him from injuring himself and the people around him.

The man was then sent to the hospital while still conscious.

According to the police, he was subsequently apprehended under Section 7 of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act 2008.

He was also arrested for the offences of criminal intimidation and drink driving.

Police investigations are currently ongoing.
