A 20-year-old man appeared in court on Jul. 17 to face three charges of voluntarily causing hurt and one charge of providing false information to the authorities.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the accused had previously contacted a 17-year-old girl to chat and borrow money from her.

However, his 14-year-old girlfriend found out about it.

Feeling upset, she conspired with her boyfriend to ask the victim out and attacked her three times.

The victim is diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and intellectual disability.

The accused pleaded guilty to two of the charges in court and the remaining two charges will be taken into consideration during sentencing.

Due to a gag order, no information regarding the identity of the victim, the accused and accused's girlfriend were revealed.

Met the victim via Instagram

According to court documents, the accused had first contacted the victim via Instagram on Apr. 6.

The next day, he told the victim that his father-in-law was hospitalised and asked if he could borrow S$360 from her.

The victim agreed and met the accused under his block the following day to give him the money.

Accused's girlfriend found out

Shin Min Daily News reported that the girlfriend of the accused found out that her boyfriend had been contacting the victim and got upset.

In response, the accused told her that he felt the victim was "clingy" and wanted to teach her a lesson.

The couple then conspired to ask the victim out so that the accused girlfriend could assault her.

Attacked the victim three times

On Apr. 14, the accused contacted the victim and told her that he needed to borrow S$30 from her.

The two agreed to meet under the accused's block.

After receiving the money from the victim, the accused left in a hurry.

Shortly afterwards, the accused's girlfriend met the victim and questioned her.

She told the victim that she had caused the accused to break up with his girlfriend and began to kick and punch the victim repeatedly.

The 14-year-old assaulted 17-year-old three times in total.

Victim went to the doctor

The victim went to see a doctor three weeks after the incident.

There were no swelling or bruises on her body, but doctors observed that there was a red spot at the top of her head.

The victim said both the top of her head and feet hurt, and that she had issues with her memory.

She also had difficulty sleeping due to the pain.

Lied to protect his girlfriend

In a bid to protect his girlfriend, the accused lied and claimed that it was his neighbour who attacked the victim.

The accused's girlfriend had also identified herself as the defendant's neighbour during the assault.

As a result, the victim had informed the police that she was assaulted by a "neighbour" of the accused.

During his statement, the accused said his "neighbour" was a close friend of his.

He added that the "neighbour" had assaulted the victim as she was upset that the victim had caused the accused and his "girlfriend" to break up.

However, the police eventually found out that the "neighbour" was actually the accused's girlfriend.

When questioned again, the accused admitted that he had lied.

He pleaded with the judge, saying that he had learnt his lesson from the incident and asked the court for a lighter sentence and permission to call his family.

The judge called for a reformative training suitability report and postponed the sentencing.
