Former two-time Malaysia prime minister Mahathir Mohamad has become a centenarian.
He celebrates his 100th birthday on Jul. 10, 2025.
And the well wishes are pouring in from Malaysians, as well as leaders.
Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong took to Facebook to wish Mahathir "a happy 100th birthday today".
He also extended his well wishes to Mahathir's wife, Siti Hasmah, who will be celebrating her 99th birthday soon.
SM Lee wrote:
Tun Mahathir was a seminal leader who shaped Malaysia into what it is today – a modern, globally connected, and successful country. Regionally, he championed ASEAN unity, recognising that only by staying together could we maintain and benefit from our hard-won independence. His decades of public service have made a lasting difference to Malaysia and ASEAN.
Tun Dr Siti Hasmah has also made significant contributions to Malaysia, advocating for many social and health-related causes, ranging from maternal and children’s healthcare to literacy.
Singapore and Malaysia 🇸🇬🇲🇾 have long shared a deep and multifaceted relationship. Our two countries have not always seen eye to eye on every issue, but we have always worked together to overcome differences and find common ground. My predecessors and I appreciated the opportunity to work closely with Tun Mahathir. We made progress on many matters during our respective terms as Prime Minister, something which our successors will continue to work on.
Mahathir was Malaysia's and the world's oldest prime minister when he took power after Pakatan Harapan's shock victory in the 2018 election, ending an unbroken reign of Barisan Nasional rule.
Mahathir remains active in both politics and social media, making international trips and regularly sharing his thoughts on Malaysian and global affairs.
Just two weeks prior, he was seen driving a Proton e.MAS 7, the car manufacturer's first electric vehicle.
Proton was the brainchild of Mahathir.
