Automated robots can now speed up the process of passport and/or identity card collection at the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority’s (ICA) new Services Centre (ISC).

The new ISC was officially opened by Minister for Home Affairs and Coordinating Minister for National Security K Shanmugam on Jul. 31.

In his speech at the ICA Services Centre, Shanmugam said that 95 per cent of applications to ICA are submitted online and most ICA documents are issued digitally.

"But for those who need to visit in person – for example, to collect identification documents or to provide biometric information – this new centre offers a much better experience," said Shanmugam.

With more than 100 robots operating at any one time, these automated robots are among the components of ICA’s newly launched Integrated Smart Document Management System (iSMART).

What you can do at the new ISC

Members of the public may visit the ISC for:

1.Self-collection kiosks

Self-collection kiosks allow members of the public to collect documents faster than before.

As part of the ISC's new iSMART system, you can make an appointment at the ISC and collect your passport and/or identity card within 5 minutes of arrival at the self-collection kiosks.

This allows time savings of up to 55 per cent compared to manual collection in the past where each counter had to be manned by an officer.

There are also height adjustable self-collection kiosks for wheelchair-bound customers.

2. Gain access to multiple services at a single point

You may now obtain information at Level 1's information counter where all of ICA's information services, which spanned five floors in the past, are now integrated.

ISC also has service rooms where you can be issued your passport, identity cards and other passes. You may also gain access to other services such as the completion of immigration formalities and extension of stay.

You may also opt for in-person assistance at the dedicated "iAssist" area on Level 2 of the ISC.

How document collection works

  1. Input your personal identification information into the self-collection kiosk and complete your iris verification.

  2. Automated robot retrieves the required document(s) from storage.

  3. Insert your document(s) into the self-collection kiosk for invalidation.

  4. Automated robot proceeds to the self-collection kiosk to hand over the document(s).

  5. Self-collection kiosk issues the document(s) to you.

How to get to ISC

The ISC is within walking distance of Lavender MRT station (EW11). It operates from 8:00am to 4:30pm on weekdays and is closed on weekends and public holidays.
