WhatsappLess than 24 hours after Minister for Home Affairs and Coordinating Minister for National Security K Shanmugam announced on Jul. 18 that Singapore's cyberspace is under attack by espionage actor UNC3886, the 4D number 3886 was sold out.

According to the Singapore Pools official website, number 3886 sold out both in the big and small bets as of Jul. 19.

The humorous irony was also noted by Shanmugam, who quipped in a post on Facebook:

"I said Singaporeans need to know that UNC3886 is attacking us in cyberspace. And that it’s very serious. One reaction: No. 3886 has been sold out for 4D today."

UNC3886

The Cybersecurity Agency of Singapore (CSA) is leading an investigation into UNC3886's cyberthreat activities in Singapore's Critical Information Infrastructure (CII).

UNC3886 is an espionage actor responsible for an Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) targeting Singapore's critical infrastructure.

Speaking at CSA's 10th anniversary dinner on Jul. 18, Shanmugam called UNC3886 a highly sophisticated threat actor that is able to compromise Singapore's infrastructure and network systems while remaining undetected.

He warned that if left uncurbed, UNC3886 will be able to cause major disruption to Singapore and Singaporeans.

"Even as we speak, UNC3886 is attacking our Critical Infrastructure right now", Shanmugam added.

While Shanmugam did not name any country during his speech, other reports have linked UNC3886 to China.
