Workers' Party (WP) candidate Andre Low has apologised for his "inappropriate" language and remarks in several leaked Telegram messages.

The messages were leaked from a private chat with his business school classmates, and have recently been making rounds on social media.

In an apology posted on social media, Low, the party's candidate for Jalan Kayu SMC, explained that the messages were "rants" that mostly date to the Covid-19 pandemic period.

"I have always been opinionated. I hold strong convictions," he said.

He added that he has since matured as a now husband and soon-to-be father, and after having worked with WP for the past five years.

"I am not proud of the way I expressed my views, and I am deeply sorry for the language I used. It was in a different stage of my life," he wrote.

The leaked messages were posted on Facebook and Reddit on Apr. 29.

One showed him swearing about a resident he met at a Meet-the-People session, who obtained his personal number and "[called him] every day".

"IMO, these people can f*ck off," he wrote in the chat.

In other messages, he swore about the government, TraceTogether, CNA, and the previous owners of his resale flat for their "cheapo" renovation.

He also made disparaging remarks about Grab drivers: "What is the age where if you get retrenched you're basically f*cked and have to drive Grab?"

In the years since, Low said his experiences have "opened [his] eyes to the lived realities of Singaporeans and Singapore firms and I have matured over the process".

He also referenced his complaint about the resident he met at MPS, saying that "there is no excuse for using such language or making disparaging comments about anyone — especially those who have placed their trust in me".

"To the voters of Jalan Kayu SMC, I am sorry," he wrote.

"I take full responsibility for my past actions.

I understand that as a public figure, my words carry weight and can cause real harm.

This has been a humbling experience, but I hope that I can earn your trust, and demonstrate my sincerity in wanting to serve you."

Law, tech, consulting

Low joined the WP in 2020.

After the WP team won Sengkang GRC the same year, he was appointed as secretarial assistant to MP Louis Chua and tasked with running Meet-the-People Sessions.

Amid the pandemic, he built a digital MPS solution that "maintained residents' critical line to their MP", according to his profile on WP's website.

A lawyer by training, he started out as a disputes lawyer with Drew & Napier, before venturing into the start-up space.

He has also worked in the areas of tech and consulting, at Amazon Web Services and Boston Consulting Group respectively.

Low will face off against the People's Action Party's Ng Chee Meng in GE2025.
