SUV crushed between 2 trucks kills 8 family members, including 2 toddlers, in Thailand
Two girls, aged 12 and 18, survived the incident.
Eight people were killed in Thailand when an 18-wheeler slammed into a parked SUV and another lorry, crushing the SUV between the two heavy vehicles.
The accident took place at about 10pm on Friday (Apr. 24) along Motorway Number 7 in the Samut Prakan province, Thai media Thaiger reported.
Eight found dead at the scene
According to the media, a 60-year-old truck driver rear-ended the SUV, pushing it into the back of a lorry and crushing the passengers inside the vehicle during the process.
The rescue team reportedly had to use metal-cutting equipment to cut through the wreckage and extricate the victims.
Eight passengers— a male driver, four women, a ten-year-old boy, and two toddlers aged 2 and 3— in the SUV were found dead at the scene.
Human remains were also discovered at the scene of the incident, according to Nation Thailand, citing the police.
The remains have been transferred to a medical institute for identification purposes.
Two survivors
Three people were found injured in the crash— two girls from the SUV and the truck driver, a 60-year-old man.
The two girls are aged 12 and 18.
They told the police that their family were travelling from Bangkok to Rayong when they stopped in the emergency area to change a child's diaper.
The two girls got out of the car to fetch a diaper from the boot when the truck crashed into their SUV from behind, reported Thai PBS.
Police are now reviewing CCTV footage from the scene to determine the cause of the accident.
They will also be questioning the 60-year-old truck driver once his condition improves.
