
Across the world, those who looked up at the sky on the morning of Apr. 25, 2025, would have seen a smiling crescent face.
Not so in Singapore.
Observers here were greeted with a sadder sight, an inverted crescent moon like a "frown":

This celestial event occurred because of a double conjunction, leading to the waning crescent moon combining with Venus and Saturn in the night sky to form a grin.
Saturn also appeared brighter than Venus, giving the grin a wonky aspect.
Those in the Western hemisphere got a glimpse of the smile, while in Singapore, due to arrangement of the phenomenon relative to us, the crescent was inverted.
Several observers got up early at about 5am expecting to see a smiling face, and were a little surprised:
