S'pore man & woman, 35, arrested for loanshark harassment in Bukit Batok

On Apr. 25 at about 2:25pm, the police were alerted to a case of loanshark harasssment at a residential unit along Bukit Batok Street 34.

The main gate of the residential unit was locked with a bicycle lock, and a debtor's note was left behind:

The two individuals' identities were established within five hours of the report.

Preliminary investigations revealed that they are believed to be involved in other similar cases of loanshark harassment islandwide.

They will be charged in court today (Apr. 26) under the Moneylenders Act 2008.

First-time offenders can be sentenced to a fine of between S$5,000 and S$50,000, imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.

A statement from the police said: "The Police have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance and disrupt public safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law."
