Very heavy traffic expected at S'pore land checkpoints this Good Friday long weekend
Over 538,000 travellers crossed the checkpoints in a single day on Mar. 28 during the recent Hari Raya Puasa long weekend.
Traffic is expected to be very heavy at both the Woodlands and Tuas land checkpoints during this upcoming Good Friday long weekend from Apr. 17 to 21, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said on Apr. 14.
This period has traditionally been the busiest long weekend of the calendar year for the land checkpoints, ICA added.
During the recent Hari Raya Puasa long weekend over Mar. 28 to 31, more than 1.8 million travellers crossed the two checkpoints.
A peak of over 538,000 travellers crossed the checkpoints in a single day on Mar. 28.
Car travellers departing during peak periods had to wait up to three hours for immigration clearance, due to traffic tailback from Malaysia.
Travellers can expect longer waiting time to clear immigration and they can opt to take the cross-border bus services to avoid congestion, ICA said.
ICA also said travellers are to cooperate with its officers, observe traffic rules and maintain lane discipline.
"ICA will not hesitate to take stern action against travellers who do not comply with officers’ instructions and commit offences at the checkpoints," ICA said.
Errant motorists caught queue cutting will be turned away and made to re-queue, ICA said in its reminder.
