A man driving a Singapore-registered car was suspected to have fallen asleep at the wheel while at a traffic light in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

After he was honked at and awakened, he apparently floored the accelerator of his Honda Civic and crashed into a car, which resulted in a chain collision.

His actions apparently angered road users; the driver of the Singapore-registered car almost got beaten up.

The accident happened at around 2pm on March 31 at Jalan Kebun Teh in JB.

A video circulating on social media showed the scene of the chain collision. The Singapore-registered Honda collided with a Malaysia-registered BMW, which in turn, crashed into a Perodua and a Proton.

The BMW driver could be heard asking, "How do I get out?"

The airbag of the Honda was deployed, and the male driver, who was wearing a seat belt, looked dazed.

The bonnet of the Honda was lifted, and a tire was blown.

The windshield and the right doors of the BMW car were severely damaged and could not be opened.

A Perodua car parked on the side of the road also appeared to have been seriously damaged.

A person at a car dealership told a Shin Min Daily News reporter who went to JB on Apr. 3 that he heard a loud bang when he was working at the back of the shop.

He said several people appeared dissatisfied with the male driver of the Honda and almost beat him up, so he rushed to stop them to prevent the situation from escalating.

The Honda driver purportedly looked sleepy.

Another employee of the dealership claimed eyewitnesses at the scene said the Honda driver apparently fell asleep at the intersection while waiting for the traffic light to turn green: "He might have suddenly woken up and stepped on the accelerator and lost control."

According to him, a car dealership salesman was driving the BMW at the time of the accident.

He was with potential customers for a test drive and had just left the petrol station, about to turn at the intersection when he got hit.

A child was reportedly in the car at the time.

A police report has been lodged.

The Perodua reportedly was an asset that belonged to the dealership and might be scrapped as it was seriously damaged.
