The People's Action Party (PAP) Nee Soon team has unveiled its manifesto "Nee Soon: Residents First!", which highlights its focus on building more projects that will facilitate families, youths, and the elderly's quality of life in Nee Soon.

The team consists of Minister for Law and Home Affairs K Shanmugam, 66; Goh Hanyan, 39; Lee Hui Ying, 36; Jackson Lam, 40; and Syed Harun Alhabsyi, 40.

Nee Soon GRC MPs Derrick Goh and Carrie Tan were also present at the manifesto.

Shanmugam, who is also the anchor minister for Nee Soon GRC, said the manifesto addresses residents' concerns regarding rising costs, jobs, housing, and healthcare.

"A home with a heart where the old and the young can enjoy"

Lee, who has been an active youth community volunteer in Nee Soon GRC for more than 15 years, said the team wanted to build "a home with a heart where the old and the young can enjoy".

She also noted that as more young families move into the area, childcare facilities are one of the team's priorities.

Goh added that the team's manifesto is a collective effort after getting input from residents on their concerns, needs, and hopes.

"Everybody wants to make this a more liveable and more welcoming place for the residents and families of the residents who come here, and that is what we'll continue to do," said Goh.

"Moving forward, there will continue to be efforts to listen and understand what the residents might require, and work with the different, relevant agencies to make it happen as well," she said.

Pamphlets for residents' information

The team also highlighted pamphlets that will be distributed to Nee Soon GRC residents so they can see what they have done so far, and what will be delivered if they are elected again.

The pamphlet seen by Mothership highlighted the increase in the number of childcare facilities and eldercare services, as well as modern amenities such as enrichment outlets, sports facilities, and a hawker centre.

It also promised improved access to key transport nodes, such as the North-South Corridor, as well as sheltered linkways.

"We all want the best for Singapore and Nee Soon"

When asked about the upcoming fight with Red Dot United (RDU), led by the party's Secretary General Ravi Philemon, Shanmugam said that both parties "want the best for Singapore and Nee Soon".

"This is about the residents. It's a covenant with the residents. In the sense that we are coming up, we are saying: Look, you know, we seek your trust, and please give us your trust, and this is what we think we can do for you," the minister said.

"The residents will then have to say who they believe can do the best for them both at the national and local level," he added.
