Taiwan actor Darren Wang allegedly instigated assault of driver by 3 people, more details emerge
The attempted murder charge has been amended.
More details regarding Taiwanese actor Darren Wang being investigated for attempted murder has emerged.
According to Taiwanese media, as per Lianhe Zaobao, Wang is suspected of instigating his friend, a man surnamed Yu, to beat up a driver.
This was after the 33-year-old Wang was reportedly arrested for suspected military evasion on Feb. 18, 2025.
Evidence of alleged assault found
During investigations into Wang's purported military service evasion and while he was out on NT$150,000 (S$6,120) bail, prosecutors unexpectedly discovered in the actor's confiscated mobile phone some evidence of him allegedly instigating an assault.
Taiwanese media reported that on Apr. 18, 2024, Wang booked a ride-hailing vehicle from his residence in Da'an District, Taipei City to his registered residence in Xinyi District.
During the ride, Wang apparently thought that the driver had taken a detour and made the trip longer.
Both parties then got into a quarrel.
After Wang got off the car, he found that his keys were left behind, but the car door could not be opened.
Wang apparently knocked hard on the car window and got into another quarrel with the driver.
Prosecutors and police suspect that Wang subsequently complained to Yu, who allegedly used his connections to find the driver.
Three or four alleged gangsters then beat up the driver.
Arrested duo
On Mar. 4, the police went to the homes of Wang and Yu to arrest them.
Following seven hours of questioning, the prosecutor amended the charges to incitement to injury, violation of personal information protection act, and other serious crimes.
It was previously reported that Wang was charged with attempted murder.
A request was made to the court to detain and deny access visitors to the two men.
The accused were transferred to the New Taipei District Court for a hearing.
After the hearing, the court ruled that Wang was granted bail of NT$5 million (S$204,000), while Yu was detained and denied access to visitors.
