S'porean man, 34, arrested in Japan twice for posing as police to scam local woman, stealing S$7,730 from ATM
The man claims to be working in the delivery business.
A Singaporean man, aged 34, was arrested twice in Japan, first for impersonating a police officer to scam a local woman, then for stealing from an ATM.
Scammed a Japanese woman of nearly S$2,350
According to Japanese media, the Singaporean, who claims to work in the delivery business, was first arrested in February 2025.
He had posed as a police officer and called a woman in her 20s in Yamagata City to cheat her of ¥260,000 (S$2,348).
While police were investigating the initial case, they discovered his involvement in the second incident.
According to the police, he is suspected of conspiring with others to steal ¥860,000 (S$7,764) from an ATM in Tokyo's Toshima ward.
He allegedly carried out the crime by using a card under another person's name that he had illegally obtained,.
He was subsequently arrested again.
