3 fires in 4 days in Woodlands: S'porean man, 56, charged with committing mischief by fire in 1 case

He can be jailed for up to seven years and fined, if convicted.

A 56-year-old Singaporean man was charged on Mar. 12 following a spate of three fires in Woodlands in four days recently.

According to The Straits Times, Seah Kian Li is facing one count of committing mischief by fire.

Court documents stated that Seah allegedly tossed an unknown item into a recycling bin, causing it to catch fire.

He was at the void deck on Block 155 Woodlands Street 13 at around 9.30am on March 10.

The case will be heard again on Mar. 26.

He can be jailed for up to seven years and fined, if convicted.

About the three fires

Three cases of fire in Woodlands between Mar. 7 and 10 occurred at and around Block 155 Woodlands Street 13.

They are being investigated by the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

The first fire involved items on a bench, while the other two fires involved the contents of recycling bins.

The first fire was put out with an extinguisher by SCDF officers.

Members of the public helped to put out the fires on March 8 and 10 with buckets of water.

No injuries were reported.
