Man urinates into Haidilao hotpot in China, company vows legal action

A man in China decided to add some “flavour” to his hotpot by urinating in it.

A video of the incident, which took place at a Haidilao branch in China, quickly went viral on Chinese social media, sparking widespread outrage online.

The hotpot franchise later announced that legal action would be taken and that investigations were underway.

Although the original video was taken down, it was reposted by others online.

The video showed a man in black pants standing on top of a table and appearing to urinate into a hotpot.

Used plates and utensils were scattered across the table, while laughter could be heard in the background.

Then, the stream of liquid stopped, and the man adjusted his pants.

Haidilao condemns the act

According to Hong Kong news outlet Sing Tao Daily, Haidilao confirmed they had reported the incident to the relevant authorities and would fully cooperate with the investigation.

The company pledged to assist the authorities, including providing surveillance footage if available.

A screengrab showing the company’s social media account's response to the viral video emphasised that Haidilao would pursue legal action against those responsible, regardless of whether the act was staged or real.

Online outrage

The video sparked outrage online, with many criticising the man.

According to Creaders, one comment called the man "disgusting".

Meanwhile, another reportedly asked, "Can the tools used in the crime be cut off?"
