Elderly man spotted lying on PIE, 2 drivers stop to help him
The elderly man could not explain how he got there.
While driving along the Pan Island Expressway (PIE), Jason Wong did not expect to see the alarming sight of an elderly man lying on the road's road shoulder.
Speaking to Mothership, Wong said he was travelling along the expressway near Toa Payoh on Mar. 4 at around 1pm when he noticed the man in a white shirt and dark pants lying near the chevron.

Despite being late to submit an important work document, Wong instinctively turned on his hazard lights and pulled over to help the elderly man.
"In my mind, I was imagining how uncomfortable it must have been to be in his position, and I know that it is extremely dangerous to be in the middle of the expressway. It was an accident waiting to happen, and an accident that can be avoided," said Wong.
Got out to help him
After he pulled over and exited the car, another vehicle pulled up in front of Wong's car and the driver also quickly got out to assist the elderly man.
The two men proceeded to prop the elderly man up and helped him into Wong's car.

Wong shared that he wanted to quickly get the elderly man off the road and into his car to cool down.
Once in the car, the elderly man told Wong he wanted to go to Bukit Batok Street 11 to "collect his taxi".
"How he ended up there near Toa Payoh, he couldn't tell me," Wong added.
Wong also noted that the man appeared disoriented and there was blood on the man's fingers, ears and right side of his body.
Waved down the police
After driving briefly, Wong spotted a police car and waved it down, while telling the elderly man in Mandarin that he was getting the police to help him.
Once Wong explained the situation, two police officers provided their assistance.
One of the officers told the elderly man that he would take him where he wanted to go and helped him out of the car.

Wong provided the police with his contact information, and they said they would reach out if they required his assistance.
Not the first time
Wong told Mothership that it was not the first time he encountered an elderly man in the middle of an expressway.
In September 2023, he witnessed an elderly man, approximately 70 to 80 years old, walking under the hot sun in the middle of the Ayer Rajar Expressway (AYE) near Clementi.
The man told Wong that his neighbour had apparently left him in the middle of AYE and that he needed to head to a supermarket nearby.
Wong decided to drop the man off to get the man "out of danger first".
He also contacted the man's wife and informed her about his whereabouts.
