Rodrigo Duterte, former President of the Philippines, was arrested on Mar. 11, 2025 following an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.
The Philippines Inquirer reported that Duterte was arrested at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, after returning from Hong Kong.
He was placed into police custody.
According to the Philippines News Agency (PNA), citing the Presidential Communications Office, the arrest warrant was received by Interpol Manila earlier on Mar. 11.
Duterte is in "good health" and was examined by government doctors, PNA added.
He is wanted by the ICC for alleged crimes against humanity.
During his time in office, Duterte waged a brutal campaign against drugs that left at least 6,000 dead, although the number of extrajudicial killings could be higher, CNN reported.
