Car hits boy, 15, cycling at Punggol junction when green light not in his favour
The boy and the bicycle were sent flying.
A 15-year-old boy was taken to hospital after he was hit by a car in Punggol while cycling along a pedestrian crossing when the junction's traffic light was not in his favour.
Footage of the collision on Feb. 15 at about 1:30pm was shared online.
The incident occurred at the junction of Edgefield Plains and Punggol Field.
What video showed
The traffic light had turned green in favour of the vehicles travelling along Punggol Field before the youth started to cycle across the road.
Instead of stopping, he continued to do so by utilising the pedestrian crossing.
Traffic gave way
Traffic had to delay moving off to give way to him.
As he went past the centre of the road, he did not stop at the divider but continued cycling.
This caused the motorcyclists travelling on the right lane of the two-lane road towards Tebing Lane to slow down.
However, the car on the left lane failed to anticipate the cyclist coming from the right and hit him.
The bicycle and teen were sent flying.
The teen managed to stand up but appeared disoriented.
Driver assisting with investigations
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the road traffic accident and one person was conveyed conscious to KK Women's and Children's Hospital.
A 22-year-old car driver is assisting with investigations.
Police investigations are ongoing.
