Amid the dazzling festivities of Chinese New Year, one neighbourhood in Hulu Langat, Selangor, stood out not just for their vibrant celebrations, but for their admirable sense of responsibility right after.
In a video shared on TikTok on Jan. 29, a group of neighbours was spotted cleaning up their neighbourhood together after a night of setting off fireworks.
"This is the way"
In the 52-second video, around five people could be seen sweeping and collecting firework debris off the road along their houses.
The sight was recorded and also streamed live on TikTok by user @ninanino.__, who said that she had filmed the entire clean-up process after spotting her neighbours tidying up the common space in between their houses.
They had also made sure to clean up the area right outside her gate.
According to the user, her neighbours set off fireworks outside the house as part of their Chinese New Year celebrations.
She complimented their responsible behaviour, adding that her husband was also helping in the clean-up.
"This is the way, tidying up after you're done 'playing'," she wrote in her caption.

Cleaning up not a norm, netizens react
The act garnered attention from other users who commented that the practice is not common among other Malaysians who also indulge in such festive activities.
Many praised the user's neighbours responsible behaviour, saying that they have "set a good example" for other people and such neighbours are "hard to come by".

"Cleaning up after yourself after making a mess. This is the best example. If it’s like this, neighbours wouldn’t kick a fuss. Good job."

"A neighbour like this is hard to come by. Take care of this neighbour well."

Others also said that they would "join in" and help such neighbours clean the area, and would not mind the noise or mess if they had equally responsible neighbours.

"If this was my house, I’d join in to sweep. Just want to help out."

"People won’t be mad if they play firecrackers every day, if they [behave this way]. After they’re done, they sweep after themselves. We also understand that it’s their festivity. When it’s our turn, we’ll be like that too."
