Lion dances are a fundamental part of Chinese New Year.

For one festival, they decided to put a spin on the traditional dance.

Instead of humans, cute robot dogs donned the traditional vibrant lion dance outfits as they performed for an audience.

According to local news outlets, the dance was part of a festival in Shenzhen, Guangdong on Jan. 22.

A Douyin video showed the robot dogs performing various moves for their audience, such as each dog sitting down to the beat of the drum before leaping forward.

Many netizens found the robot dogs hilarious or adorable, with some joking that their ancestors probably never expected the traditional dance to be passed down in this way.

The festival also featured other integrations of technology, including robots welcoming guests and drones being used to scatter flowers.

A trend in China

Robot dogs appeared to be a new trend for the New Year in China.

A museum in Zhejiang similarly dressed a robot dog in a lion dance outfit to pay the children a New Year's visit (拜年), while robot dogs in red scarves passed out goodie bags in Sichuan.
