From the artist’s performance to the behind-the-scenes logistics, there’s a lot more that goes into the cost than meets the eye.

Mothership went behind the scenes at the National Stadium during the setup for Joker Xue’s concert, and we’ve got a breakdown of the concert ticket math for you.

Planning begins long before the show

Xue’s Singapore concert was confirmed around four months ago, in October 2024, kicking off months of preparation.

A core team of just four people took on the task of planning everything from logistics to stage design.

But the actual work of transforming the National Stadium into a concert venue starts much closer to the show date.

While the concert itself takes place on Feb. 14 and 15, the setup process began 10 days before the performance dates.

A total of 27 containers filled with equipment were flown in from China specifically for the concert.

But the logistics don’t stop there —additional materials and resources had to be sourced locally to meet the technical demands of the show.

A massive setup team

In total, more than 600 people were involved in the setup, working around the clock for the full 10-day duration.

Yes, that’s right. For over 240 hours, the team would work non-stop to get everything ready.

This includes assembling the stage, laying out the floor seats, installing the sound systems, and setting up all the necessary lighting and technical equipment that you’ll see during the show.

More hands on deck

When the concert day finally arrives, the manpower more than doubles to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Over 500 people, namely ushers, security and runners, are present on each concert day.

All that work contributes to the smooth flow of the event and the memorable experience that we, as the audience, get to see.

The tear-down process

But the work doesn’t end when the artiste leaves the stage

After the two-day concert, the team is right back at it, spending another 72 hours—yes, three full days—tearing everything down.

The entire stage, chairs on the floor and sound equipment (among other things) must be disassembled and packed away before everyone calls it a day.

The true cost of a concert ticket

Next time you attend a concert, remember that there’s a lot more going on behind the curtain than just what you see on stage.

The ticket price includes the massive manpower involved in everything from setup to tear-down, and the technical equipment required to bring you the concert experience you love.

And that’s the real cost of your concert ticket.
