S'porean doctor, 85, charged for posting anti-Islam content on Facebook
He left Singapore in January 2022 while being investigated and came back in October 2024.
An 85-year-old doctor in Singapore was handed a charge on Feb. 26 for deliberately intending to wound the religious feelings of Muslims, CNA reported.
Kho Kwang Po had on Apr. 21, 2021 put up a post on Facebook that contained offensive remarks against Muslims.
Charge sheets stated that Kho is a Singaporean and he had allegedly created and uploaded the post.
The anti-Islam statements linked Muslims to violence and crime, and suggested that religious leaders were dishonest.
The Singapore Police Force said on Feb. 25 that reports were lodged about the online posts on Kho's Facebook account on Jun. 29 and 30, 2021.
Investigations showed that Kho had, on Apr. 21, 2021, re-posted screenshots of his Facebook posts containing the offensive remarks from five years earlier, the police said.
Kho left Singapore in January 2022 while being investigated and came back in October 2024, the police added.
Kho, who was without a lawyer, told the court he intended to plead guilty, according to CNA.
The case will be heard again on Apr. 9.
Kho had previously co-authored a letter advocating for Singapore's Covid-19 vaccination programme to stop.
He can be jailed for up to three years, or fined, or both for deliberately intending to wound the religious or racial feelings of a person.
