A 15-year-old boy in Thailand was tragically killed after he was accidentally scooped up and chopped up by a sugarcane harvester while sleeping in a field in the afternoon on Feb. 11, Bangkok Post reported.

The incident occurred at about 2:30pm in a sugarcane plantation in Lan Krabue district in Kamphaeng Phet province, it was also reported.

Uncle made discovery

According to Bangkok Post, the horrific discovery was made when the boy's uncle noticed blood spraying from the machine.

Police called to the scene then found a red harvester parked near a truck.

The truck's cargo consisted of harvested cane and a bloodied torso on the top.

The victim was identified as 15-year-old Anusorn Konwicha.

The harvester operator was his uncle, 26-year-old Jariyawat Waree.

Boy was asleep in field

Jariyawat told police that his nephew had apparently fallen asleep among the standing sugarcane and was accidentally harvested with the crop.

Because of the thick vegetation, it is believed that no one saw him lying there.

Jariyawat explained that he was unaware of what had happened until he saw blood splattering from the machine.

Upon discovering his nephew's remains, he immediately alerted the authorities.

The teen died instantly due to the severe injuries he sustained.

The uncle added that the boy's parents had died around 13 years ago.

Since then, Anusorn had lived with him and would occasionally accompany him to work.

Uncle to be charged

The owner of the sugarcane field was summoned for questioning at Lan Krabue Police Station on Feb. 12.

Police confirmed that Jariyawat would be charged with reckless operation of the harvester, resulting in death.
