WhatsappThe 18-year-old motorcyclist involved in the fatal chase along Seletar Expressway (SLE) on Jun. 4, 2024, is set to plead guilty.

According to CNA, the teen indicated he would take up the prosecution's plead-guilty offer in a pre-trial conference on Sep. 9.

He is set to plead guilty on Oct. 22 before Deputy Principal District Judge Kessler Soh.

The teen faces 13 charges, including allegedly:

  • Consuming methamphetamine in Aug. 2023.
  • Dangerous driving to evade the Land Transport Authority (LTA) officer by cutting across two lanes on Jun. 4.
  • Possessing a samurai sword.

The teen cannot be named as he was still 17 years old when he allegedly consumed methamphetamine, and is protected under the Children and Young Persons Act.

Fatal accident

The LTA enforcement officer died in a chase along SLE towards Bukit Timah Expressway on Jun. 4.

The officer pursued the teenager on a motorcycle before the accident.

A video shared online showed the LTA officer and the teenager on the road shoulder at the TPE exit.

The teenager was speeding up, and the officer was also accelerating after him. Both of them cut in front of a petroleum truck entering the exit and towards the main expressway.

The officer then crashed into the road divider and was thrown off his motorbike. Subsequent footage showed a police car and tow truck on the scene. A photo also showed the officer lying on the road with debris strewn on the ground.

The officer was conveyed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The LTA officer was set to marry his fiancee, whom he had known for about half a decade, in July 2024.

He had sent out wedding invitations and finished the last of his wedding preparations.

Said he's not to blame

On Jun. 6, the teenager claimed that he was not to be blamed for the death of the officer.

"I gambled my life as much as he gambled his. The death, I may be one of the contributing factors, but I am not to be blamed."

An audible gasp was heard in court when the teenager said he was not to be blamed, Straits Times reported.
