Car on fire in MCE tunnel, traffic comes to standstill
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
A car caught fire inside the Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) and caused traffic to come to a halt on Sep. 18.
In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the incident at around 6:40pm.
The fire occurred in the MCE tunnel towards the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE).
Caused traffic standstill
A video seen by Mothership, which circulated on WhatsApp, showed the car covered in flames, with smoke billowing inside the tunnel.
The vehicle was stationary and left on the road shoulder.

Vehicles came to a halt as first responders surrounded the vehicle, as seen in photos shared on the SGRV FRONT MAN Facebook page.

Fire put out by deluge system and air foam jet
SCDF said the fire was extinguished by the activation of MCE's deluge system, as well as SCDF firefighters using a compressed air foam jet.
The car was also confirmed to be not an electric vehicle (EV).
No injuries were reported.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
