A 63-year-old woman made a police report after an incident at a Goodman Arts Centre cafe where she alleged that an eight-year-old girl kicked her five-year-old granddaughter twice, causing her nose to bleed.

Shin Min Daily News reported that the incident took place at about 8pm on Oct. 31 when both girls were supposedly playing on an inflatable castle.

Inflatable castle

Speaking to Shin Min, the woman, Zheng Ping Mei (transliterated), said she visited the cafe with two other friends and brought two children along.

She added that the children played at the inflatable castle while the adults had their meal.

"My granddaughter later ran over, crying and saying that someone hit her and her nose started bleeding," said Zheng.

She immediately asked her granddaughter what had happened, and told her to identify the person responsible.

Zheng's granddaughter later identified the eight-year-old girl as the one who allegedly kicked her.

Mother's defence

The girl then went to look for her mother after Zheng asked where her parents were, Shin Min reported.

Zheng said: "The first thing the other mother said to us was to question us, saying that I wasn't in the castle, so how did I know that it was her child who hit her?

"There was no video recording inside, and she even accused us of scolding her child."

She added that the cafe manager was supposedly alerted, and alleged that the other party left even though she reportedly insisted that they did not leave.

Zheng then called the police and an ambulance, Shin Min reported.

She later took her granddaughter to KK Women's and Children's Hospital for a check up, where the doctor gave the girl a week of sick leave.

Cafe responds

Responding to Shin Min's queries, the cafe stated that it takes matters involving children's safety and well-being very seriously.

It added that it was aware of the incident, noting that the relevant authorities were handling the matter through appropriate channels.

As such, it was inconvenient to comment further, the cafe told Shin Min.
