Singapore actress Felicia Chin revealed in a recent video that she and husband, fellow actor Jeffrey Xu, are trying for a baby.
"Hopefully it'll happen within these two years," the 42-year-old said in the Nov. 1 episode of her YouTube series "Dear Joy".
She was chatting with local TV host Lee Teng, whom she has been friends with since junior college, over a meal she had made.
Towards the end of the video, the pair got into the topic of parenthood.
Lee, 44, welcomed a baby boy with his wife in July 2025, about five years after his wife had a miscarriage.
He shared with Chin about how his life has changed since becoming a father, then asked her if she wants children.
At that question, Chin looked to the side and laughed before saying that she does and has been trying to have one.
Feeling pressured
Chin opened up that she previously wanted to have children primarily because she felt pressured to do so.
"People would ask some questions, out of good intentions of course," she said. "And they'll say, 'no pressure'."
"But I already felt the pressure coming to us."
When Lee said that having children is not something to be rushed, Chin admitted that up until 2025, she had felt rather rushed.
"I'd feel that I really, really want a child, but it's with a sense of urgency," she said.
She shared how she noticed that a lot of people around her were starting their own families, and wondered when it would be her turn.
She thus had an urgency to follow these expectations and do what was considered "normal".
After reflecting about it, she realised that such a motivation behind having a baby was "not very healthy".
"Why do I want a child?" she said. "I hope to have an opportunity to raise and love a baby well."
Lee told her he similarly felt pressured in the past, but repeated that becoming a parent was something one cannot rush, and Chin agreed.
"Just live as you usually do, and don't put too much pressure on yourself and your body," he said.
