A Singapore court has ordered a six-month extension of an arrest warrant for fugitive Charles Yeo Yao Hui on Oct. 7.
The former Reform Party chairman has been on the run since 2022.
He was charged on Jan. 19, 2022, with three counts of insulting or threatening public officials, and another three for wounding the religious feelings of the Christian community.
According to the Singapore Courts’ integrated case management system (ICMS), he is also facing charges for cheating and absconding.
Yeo was granted permission to travel to Vietnam for work but later absconded while out on bail in July 2022.
He later posted on social media that he was seeking asylum in the United Kingdom (UK).
It was previously reported that Yeo was arrested in the UK and would have his extradition hearing in May 2025.
Arrest warrant extended
In a hearing on Oct. 7, the prosecution applied for a six-month extension of the arrest warrant for Yeo, Lianhe Zaobao reported.
The prosecution reportedly said that Yeo was overseas and uncontactable.
The judge granted the prosecution's application and reportedly suggested that the investigators could try to trace him in other ways.
The case was adjourned to Apr. 6, 2027, for further hearing.
