3 S'pore cars allegedly broken into in Desaru, M'sia, including a Tribecar vehicle

Three Singapore-registered cars were allegedly broken into at the car park of Adventure Waterpark Desaru Coast in Malaysia.

Photos were shared online by a Singaporean man who was parked close to the affected vehicles.

Syafiq Maselan wrote on Facebook: "Was incredibly lucky that mine was left untouched, especially since there were children’s devices on the back seat."

He told Mothership the photos were taken on Sep. 6 at 4:23pm.

Allegedly happened in broad daylight

The cars were allegedly broken into in broad daylight.

Syafiq shared the photos to the public group MY SG Road Trip - Your Malaysia Road Trip Guide! as a public service announcement.

Windows broken

The rear passenger seat windows of two cars were apparently broken, while the rear windscreen of one car was shattered.

One of the cars that had its rear passenger window broken had the Tribecar livery on it.

Syafiq wrote in his post that the thieves could have targeted bags left in the cars.

Commenters responded that leaving personal belongings behind in locked vehicles overseas might not be a good idea.

Syafiq said the passengers of the Mercedes that had its rear windscreen smashed told him that they made a police report.

Tribecar response

In response to Mothership's queries, Tribecar said: "We understand that one of our Tribecar vehicles was involved in the incident in Desaru. Most importantly, we are relieved that the hirer and his family are safe and unharmed."

Tribecar added that in the event of vehicle damage, customers should not arrange repairs themselves unless they have received prior approval.

"We try to remain flexible and consider each situation on a case-by-case basis, particularly when our customers encounter unexpected difficulties while travelling," Tribecar added.

Tribecar added that it gave the hirer specific approval to arrange for the damaged window and window tint to be replaced in Malaysia at the customer's own expense, without imposing additional fees.

This was a case-specific arrangement based on the circumstances, Tribecar said.

With regards to insurance coverage, Tribecar said: "Where there is significant damage to the vehicle, similar to damage arising from an accident, the vehicle's insurance may cover the repair costs, subject to the applicable excess/ deductible and policy terms."
