GetGo now allows S'pore drivers to drive to M'sia

GetGo, Singapore’s largest car-sharing platform, is allowing its users to drive its vehicles to Malaysia.

The new "Drive to Malaysia" feature lets users book a GetGo vehicle on the app.

Users can drive anywhere in West Malaysia from Johor Bahru to Cameron Highlands and Kuala Lumpur, according to GetGo in a Sep. 1, 2026 release.

The vehicles have vehicle entry permit (VEP) registrations.

GetGo added that the new offering provides a more cost-predictable method of driving to Malaysia.

"There are no deposits required to make a Drive to Malaysia booking, no rental stores to visit, and no mileage charge regardless of how far users drive in West Malaysia," GetGo said.

It added: "The cross-border surcharge is capped based on vehicle category and travel day, giving users full visibility of what they will pay before confirming their booking in the GetGo app."

An additional layer of financial protection for cross border drives is also provided with the CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) and Enhanced CDW coverage options, GetGo noted.

Standard CDW increases from 5 to 10 per cent of the total booking charge, and Enhanced CDW increases from 10 to 20 per cent.

The CDW price is calculated on top of the time charge and surcharge.

"Drive to Malaysia" bookings carry a cross-border surcharge of 30 per cent on the time charge, capped based on vehicle category and travel day, GetGo said.

Select vehicle: S$20 per day for weekdays and eve of public holidays, and S$30 per day for weekends and public holidays.

Plus vehicles: S$25 per day for weekdays and eve of public holidays, and S$35 per day for weekends and public holidays.

GetGo users can also add a pre-registered co-driver to their booking for the drive to be shared between two insured drivers under the same insurance coverage.

GetGo users can tap on the “Drive to Malaysia” checkbox to show eligible vehicles near them.

Vehicles that are suitable to be driven to Malaysia have a dedicated Malaysia badge on the vehicle card.

Once the "Drive to Malaysia" function is selected, the applicable surcharge and updated price will be reflected before confirmation.

There are conditions for the "Drive to Malaysia" bookings:

● Minimum booking duration: 12 hours

● Maximum booking duration: 5 days per booking

● Advance booking window: Up to 30 days in advance

● Eligible crossings: Woodlands Causeway or Tuas Second Link

● Permissible driving area: West Malaysia only

Driving beyond Malaysia into Thailand or any other country is not permitted, GetGo said.

Tested before launch

Before the launch, GetGo previously opened the "Drive to Malaysia" feature to a select group of beta drivers drawn from its existing community of users.

Within 48 hours of launch, there were close to 2,000 responses from users who were interested to participate in the beta programme.

GetGo has a fleet of over 3,000 vehicles across more than 1,700 locations islandwide.

There are currently over 500,000 drivers signed up for GetGo.
