Smoke was seen coming from underneath a carriage of a train at Bukit Gombak station on Sep. 15.

Commuters were subsequently evacuated from the train, SMRT Trains President Lam Sheau Kai said in response to Mothership's queries.

Preliminary checks suggest that the smoke may have been caused by a faulty brake, Lam said.

As a safety precaution, SMRT staff assisted all commuters to leave the train safely.

The train was then withdrawn to the depot for further checks, Lam said.

Train services continued to operate normally afterwards.

There were no reports of commuters needing medical assistance, Lam added.

A video taken by a passenger shows commuters standing on the platform as smoke comes out of the train.

Staff members were seen entering the train for checks.
