A man was accused of repeatedly harassing hawkers at the ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre by making unreasonable demands and even taking photos of their stalls as a form of "threat".

Shin Min Daily News reported that the security company where the man worked at stated that he has since been dismissed after complaints surfaced about his behaviour.

Unreasonable demands

A member of the public posted in the Facebook group Complaint Singapore alleging that a middle-aged man had repeatedly approached hawker stall owners and made unreasonable demands.

The post stated that after each outburst, the man would say, "I'm going to make you famous."

He would then take pictures of the stall.

There had been three instances where the man made such demands, the post stated.

In one instance, he allegedly asked for a soup refill without buying anything and continued arguing with the owner.

He also allegedly approached stall owners while they were busy preparing noodles and accused them of being rude when they were unable to respond while occupied.

In another instance, he allegedly made a fuss after a stall owner said they could not fulfil his request for a one-person portion of claypot rice.

According to other members of the public, the man appeared to be around 60 years old and was wearing a security company uniform.

Fired from job

In response to Shin Min's query via email, Amber Regency, the company where the man worked, stated that it was aware of the incident involving a security guard who was stationed at one of the duty locations and that it took the matter very seriously.

The spokesperson said that upon learning of the incident, the company immediately launched an internal investigation.

The company then took disciplinary action against the man and immediately terminated his employment for serious misconduct.

They said they will not tolerate employees harassing, insulting, intimidating, or engaging in any inappropriate behaviour towards the public.
