3 PMA riders caught in S'pore in 2 months without valid certificate of medical need or exemption

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has engaged over 100 personal mobility aid (PMA) users and detected 29 offences over the last two months.

According to a Facebook post on Aug. 4, the engagements by LTA were part of regular enforcement operations to protect path users and ensure compliance with enhanced PMA rules that kicked in on Jun. 1, 2026.

The rules include requiring a certificate of medical need for mobility scooter users and a speed limit of 6km/h for PMAs.

Enforcement officers found three users riding mobility scooters without a valid certificate of medical need or exemption.

Five users were found speeding on a PMA.

A total of 21 cases involving the possession or use of non-UL2272-compliant e-scooters were also detected.

LTA said it will continue its engagements and education efforts to promote safe and responsible use of mobility scooters among users.
