Former TVB actor Lawrence Ng has embraced AI.
The 62-year-old revealed that he licensed the rights to his likeness to a production company, which recreated a younger 20-year-old version of him using artificial intelligence for a feature film.
The actor said he did not have to step onto the set at all.
Speaking at a promotional event for his new crime drama "Deadly Sins", Ng said he has already seen the completed AI-generated film.
"They used what I looked like at 20 to make a movie. I didn't have to film anything," he said.
"I've seen the finished product and I'm very satisfied with it."
Ng added that the project also allowed him to "relive what it feels like to be the male lead again".
Not worried about AI replacing actors
While some actors have voiced concerns about AI replacing performers, Ng said he sees it as an opportunity instead.
He revealed that the agreement is backed by a comprehensive contract, which gives him confidence that his likeness will not be misused.
He also admitted that "the payout is quite good".
When asked if AI could take work away from actors, Ng said it instead opens up another career path.
Joking about the possibilities, he said, "In the future, I can just sit there without filming anything and still get the job done. Even if I break my legs, I won't have to worry."
Ng also believes AI-generated performances and traditional acting can coexist, saying having another way for actors to work could ultimately benefit the industry.
