A 29-year-old man will be charged on Jun. 18 in Singapore with dangerous driving causing hurt, drink driving, driving against the flow of traffic, and allowing his vehicle to remain at rest in a position, posing danger to other road users.

The incident occurred at about 6am on Mar. 6, 2024 along Cavenagh Road.

Police were alerted to the incident involving a black car that had driven and stopped against the flow of traffic.

The driver allegedly sped off when police officers arrived and approached the car.

Travelled at 114km/h

Approximately 15 minutes later, officers spotted the car travelling at high speed along Bukit Timah Road towards Upper Bukit Timah Road.

The car was seen purportedly weaving dangerously through traffic between Coronation Road and Anamalai Avenue.

It apparently reached an average speed of at least 114km/h, exceeding the speed limit along that stretch of road.

The car allegedly beat a red light and collided with a private bus ferrying school children that was making a U-turn at the junction of Bukit Timah Road and Sixth Avenue.

The car then reportedly veered left and collided with a lamp post.

Car caught fire

The car subsequently came to a stop and caught fire on a grass verge after hitting the bus and lamp post.

The car driver and his three passengers managed to escape from the burning car.

Two boys from the bus, then aged eight and nine, along with the car driver and three of his passengers, were conveyed conscious to the hospital.

The car driver was subsequently arrested.

Investigations revealed that the car driver consumed alcohol before driving.

He was found to be a repeat offender and was previously convicted in 2019 for drunk driving and inconsiderate driving.

The man will face five charges under the Road Traffic Act.

The police reminded members of the public that it takes a serious view of motorists who engage in egregious driving behaviour, particularly those who drive under the influence of alcohol and endanger the lives of other road users.

It will not hesitate to take firm action against such offenders.
