After receiving news that an elderly resident in Singapore had accumulated years of belongings at home, East Coast Town Council cleaners and other volunteers stepped forward to help.
The town council wrote in a Jun. 16 Facebook post that AMKSS Social Move had reached out about the resident.
"Together with AMKSS volunteers, [the] Housing and Development Board (HDB), and the Ministry of National Development New Environment Action Team (MND NEAT) team, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work," the post read.
Declutter, deep clean
East Coast Town Council added that its cleaners carried out a full declutter and deep clean of the resident's flat, which included a thorough pressure wash of the unit as well as the shared corridor.
This was to ensure that the resident would have a living space that was safer and more hygienic.

Kampung spirit
Despite the process being a tough one that required patience and care, the town council said, "watching the space gradually open up made every moment worthwhile".
Thanking AMKSS Social Move, the volunteers, HDB, and the MND NEAT team for their dedication and "for never leaving a neighbour behind", the town council said, "this is what Kampung spirit looks like!"
"It takes a village, and ours showed up," the post read.
