The body of the 68-year-old man who fell in front of an oncoming train at Segar LRT station on the morning of May 18 was apparently dragged by about twenty metres and found severed in half, Shin Min Daily News reported.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said they received a call for assistance at about 5:50am at the station.

SMRT later announced that a man was seen entering the tracks at around 5am.

Train services were temporarily suspended for about five hours.

Police do not suspect foul play and investigations are ongoing.

Believed to have been run over and dragged by train

According to Shin Min, at about 8:40am, officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were observed retrieving the remains from the track and bringing them into the train station for investigators to capture photographic evidence.

The body was observed to have been severed.

Shin Min observed that there was a white cloth placed adjacent to the track, about 10m from the station platform.

A blue tent was observed about 20m away.

A large group of police officers, accompanied by train station staff, were seen along the tracks.

Officers were seen going back and forth between the two points.

It is believed that the deceased was run over and dragged by the train, Shin Min wrote.

Numerous residents witnessed the aftermath, including 59-year-old Lin (transliteration), who told Shin Min that she noticed a blue tent on the tracks as she was putting out her clothes to dry.

At about 9:15am, the remains were taken away in a black vehicle.

A crowd had gathered at the time, and the cordon was only removed at about 10am, Shin Min reported.

Family seen distraught

The family of the deceased were also at the scene and was observed to be in tears after identifying the body.

The son of the deceased was seen crying as he went from the train station to the first floor while accompanied by police officers.

Another individual, believed to be the deceased's wife, was seen being interviewed by police officers after descending from the platform.

She was seen being helped by paramedics onto a stretcher and appeared emotionally distraught when she was wheeled out.

She later left the scene in an ambulance.
