Three men were killed after a car and a lorry collided along a road in Melaka, Malaysia, on Apr. 26.

The accident

According to local news outlet Bernama, as cited in The Star, the accident occurred when their car, travelling from Melaka towards Johor, lost control and veered into the opposite lane, colliding with a lorry heading from Tebong to Cheng, said police chief superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar.

One of the passengers — a 24-year-old man — was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other two occupants, aged 23 and 24, were pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Hospital Melaka, he added.

A fourth passenger, a 23-year-old woman, remains hospitalised at Hospital Melaka.

The lorry driver, aged 59, sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at Hospital Tampin.

Friends returning from group trip to Indonesia

According to China Press, the three male victims were close friends who had travelled to Indonesia as part of an 11-person group on Apr. 16.

They were on their way home to Segamat, Johor, when the accident occurred.

The group returned to Malaysia on Apr. 24, spending a night in Kuala Lumpur before the four victims — Chen Jinhan, 23, Peng Zhicheng, 24, Huang Weijun, 24, and a female friend, 23 — set off by car for Segamat on Apr. 25.

The rest of the group had split off in Melaka, heading south to Johor Bahru.

They later received a call from a bystander using one of the victims' phones, and learned that the car carrying the four had been involved in a serious accident.

Huang was pronounced dead at the scene.

Peng was pronounced dead at around midnight on Apr. 27, while Chen succumbed to his injuries at around 6am later the same day.

Victims described as caring and filial

According to China Press, Huang worked at an auto parts dealership, Chen was a logistics student at INTI International University, and Peng worked in e-commerce.

The three were reportedly very close friends and were described as caring and filial.

Their deaths have left their families and friends devastated.
