S'porean man, 25, charged with murder of fellow S'porean, 32, in JB nightclub
The deceased was allegedly stabbed in the neck.
A Singaporean man has been charged with the murder of another Singaporean in a Johor Bahru nightclub.
On Mar. 31, store supervisor Muhammad Arif Saiyadi, 25, was read the murder charge at the Magistrate’s Court in Johor.
He allegedly murdered Chia Hon Chung, 32, after a fight at Aston Club Southkey, at around 5:30am on Mar. 14.
He was charged under Section 302 of Malaysia's Penal Code, according to The Star.
No plea was recorded.
Arif faces the death penalty or life imprisonment of up to 40 years with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
Pending toxicology, chemical and DNA reports
The next mention of the case will be on Jun. 3 as prosecutors are waiting for the toxicology, chemical and DNA reports, reported The Star.
Malaysian deputy public prosecutor Siti Aishah Latif is handling the case; the accused was not represented.
According to The Star, at least six suspects were arrested in relation to Chia's alleged murder.
Chia was allegedly attacked with sharp weapons and was stabbed in the neck.
He later succumbed to his injuries and died at Hospital Sultan Ismail in Taman Mount Austin in Johor Bahru.
Another Singaporean fined S$542 for assaulting friend of deceased
Another Singaporean, Shahid Nazareen Shah Phul Bahar Hussain, 33, was fined RM1,700 (S$542) for assaulting a man in a toilet of the nightclub at Persiaran Southkey 1 at around 4:30am on Mar. 14.
According to The Star, the deceased and the victim of the assault were friends and neither knew the accused before the incidents.
The charge was filed under Section 323 of the Malaysian Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 (S$638), or both.
According to the statement of facts seen by The Star, Shahid and Mohamad Adam had a misunderstanding at the location, and the accused punched the victim in the eye.
On Mar. 18, at around 12:15am, Shahid was arrested, and investigations revealed he deliberately hurt the victim.
